"Opening weekend has its traditions. We have ours." Chateau Grand Traverse uses that line to promote Corks Over Camo, which runs November 13 through 15. The "opening weekend" is Michigan's firearm deer opener, and the Michigan DNR lists the 2026 regular season as November 15 through 30.
In summer and early fall, Center Road runs on drop-ins: you pull in, find a spot at the bar, and taste. In November, tasting room hours shrink to a short afternoon window. The events that matter are set to dates people who live here already keep, like the deer opener, the first pour of the new vintage and the Saturday after Thanksgiving. Most of them need a ticket or a reservation, and several are running low on seats.
The Afternoon Window Gets Shorter in Steps
Brys changes its hours on November 1, Chateau Chantal on November 8, and Peninsula Cellars runs on its November-through-May schedule all month, so a Saturday plan that worked on Halloween weekend may not work two weeks later.
| Winery | November schedule | Starts | Holiday closures |
|---|---|---|---|
| Brys Estate | Fri–Sat 11 a.m.–6 p.m.; Sun–Thu noon–5 p.m. | November 1 | Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, Christmas |
| Chateau Chantal | Fri–Sat 11 a.m.–7 p.m. | Through November 7 | Thanksgiving |
| Chateau Chantal | Daily 11 a.m.–5 p.m. | November 8 through April | Thanksgiving |
| Peninsula Cellars | Daily 10 a.m.–5 p.m. | November through May | Thanksgiving, among others |
Once Chateau Chantal changes over on Sunday, November 8, Brys's 6 p.m. Friday and Saturday close is the latest of these three, and that late close is only on weekends. Monday through Thursday, Brys opens at noon. Peninsula Cellars opens earliest, at 10 a.m. every day, and keeps that schedule all the way to May. It also says on its visit page that hours can change without notice and suggests calling ahead.
Brys also moved its seating indoors. On its tasting room page, Brys says deck seating ended October 17, weather permitting, and that reservations after that may be seated inside. It takes reservations through December 31.
On weekdays in particular, you can't count on a late stop on the way home from town. The evening events are where the month's longer hours show up.
Where the Evenings Went
Once the afternoon window closes, the peninsula's evenings go to dinners and events booked well in advance. They follow a clear schedule.
October 29, 5 to 7 p.m.: Paint the Peninsula at Chateau Grand Traverse. It's tonight, the day this post goes up. Local artist Kristy Kurjan leads an evening of art and wine, and proceeds go to the Old Mission Peninsula School fifth-grade trip to Mackinac Island. Details are on the Chateau Grand Traverse events page.
October 30: Murder in Wonderland at Chateau Chantal. A murder-mystery dinner, $85 per person.
November 2, 4 and 6: Fall Wine Dinners at Chateau Chantal. Three dinners at $115 each, set on a Monday, a Wednesday and a Friday, so two of the three fall on weeknights when the tasting rooms close early. Chateau Chantal follows them with a Fall Harvest Wine Dinner on November 14 at $125. Check the public events calendar for seats and current details before you book.
All four Chateau Chantal dinners fall on dates when its tasting room hours are already reduced or about to be. The dinners give the winery a reason to stay busy after dark once the walk-in hours shrink.
Three Dates Set by the Local Calendar
The rest of November's big events line up with three dates that have nothing to do with tourist traffic.
The deer opener, November 13 to 15
Corks Over Camo runs from 11 a.m. Friday, November 13, through 5 p.m. Sunday, November 15. That puts it on the weekend that ends with the firearm opener on the 15th. The event page describes four chef-made courses, each paired with a Chateau Grand Traverse wine, for $45. Booking is through a link on that page.
At $45 for four courses with wine, it's the least expensive ticketed meal on the peninsula's November calendar.
The first pour, November 19
On Thursday, November 19, Chateau Grand Traverse hosts The First Pour: Nouveau au Chateau from 7 to 10 p.m. It celebrates the return of the winery's Gamay Noir Nouveau with the first tastes of the 2026 vintage, plus an open wine bar and chef-attended food stations. Tickets are $125.
For that one night, Chateau Grand Traverse closes its tasting room to the public. If your plan was a regular Thursday stop there, move it to another day that week.
The Saturday after Thanksgiving, November 28
The Old Mission Peninsula Wine Trail's Mac & Cheese Bake-Off runs Saturday, November 28, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Ticket holders visit all ten Wine Trail locations. At each stop, a member winery pours a seasonal wine alongside a mac and cheese made by a Traverse City restaurant or chef. Attendees vote for best pairing, cheesiest dish and best overall.
Tickets went on sale October 1 through the Wine Trail's events page, and the Eventbrite listing calls it a sell-out event with a limited number of tickets. In mid-October the listing showed tickets at $85.97 with a "Few tickets left" notice. If you're hosting family that weekend, book now.
The timing works on both ends of the holiday. Brys, Chateau Chantal and Peninsula Cellars all close on Thanksgiving Day, and two days later the whole trail runs one coordinated event.
Plans You Don't Need to Book
Not everything in November needs a reservation. Several things stay open, and a few have changed this fall.
Mission Point Lighthouse says on its visitor page that its museum and gift shop open on some November weekends from noon to 4 p.m. It hasn't posted specific 2026 dates, so check before you drive out. The park, beach and trails at the tip stay open all year.
Pelizzari Natural Area has a new "Hope for Hemlocks" boardwalk in its Hemlock Wing. The Old Mission Gazette reported that the ribbon-cutting was Monday, August 10, so this will be the boardwalk's first November.
Chateau Chantal has a Crooked Nook pop-up bookstore on its calendar for October 25. That's a few days before this post, but it shows the winery is booking daytime events beyond tastings and dinners.
Some of what changed this fall happened without any announcement. In early October, the Old Mission Gazette's week-in-photos roundup reported that the historic Neahtawanta Inn has been sold. The same roundup covered apple season at Johnson Farms and the Schooner Manitou in Bowers Harbor. It also showed drainage roadwork on Brinkman Road and Swaney Road and a record chestnut harvest at the Dougherty House/Ostlund property, where the count reached about 1,050 nuts against a previous record of 807.
The Gazette didn't publish a schedule or closure details for the Brinkman and Swaney work, so leave a little extra time if your route uses those roads.
One Meeting on the Calendar
If you follow how Center Road is managed, Peninsula Township has posted a public meeting of the M-37 Old Mission Peninsula Scenic Heritage Route Byway Committee for Monday, November 9, at 3 p.m. The agenda includes the committee's annual performance evaluation and work on its website. The notice is on the township homepage.
A November Week by Week
Here's the month laid out in order:
- Week of November 1: Brys switches to its November hours on the 1st. Chateau Chantal hosts Fall Wine Dinners on the 2nd, 4th and 6th, and keeps its 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday close through the 7th.
- Week of November 8: Chateau Chantal switches to daily 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on the 8th. The Byway Committee meets on the 9th. Corks Over Camo starts Friday the 13th, and the Fall Harvest Wine Dinner is on the 14th.
- Week of November 15: The firearm deer season opens on the 15th, the last day of Corks Over Camo. The First Pour is Thursday the 19th, and Chateau Grand Traverse's tasting room is closed to the public that night.
- Week of November 22: Brys, Chateau Chantal and Peninsula Cellars close for Thanksgiving on the 26th. The Mac & Cheese Bake-Off runs Saturday the 28th, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Hours and event details can change, especially if the weather turns, so check the winery's own page before you head up Center Road.
I live and work here, and I keep track of the peninsula's off-season calendar for clients the same way I keep track of listings. If you're weighing a move to Old Mission, or you already own here and wonder how a quieter month like November looks to buyers, Michael Annelin is glad to talk it through over coffee. Let's Connect.
